What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis, or trance, is a natural state of relaxed focus. All of us go in and out of various levels of trance many times a day during tasks such as driving, surfing the internet or watching television. During a hypnosis session, the hypnotherapist utilizes the trance state to help the client reach their goals and create lasting change by communicating with their subconscious mind and introducing agreed upon positive suggestions. The client is always in charge and given the opportunity to make decisions, shift perceptions, release blockages and receive inspiration on a deeply impactful level.

How Does Hypnosis Work?
Hypnosis induces a trance state where the subconscious mind is especially suggestible. This is the key to hypnosis because the subconscious mind is essentially our "control center". It determines 95% of our lives because it regulates our beliefs, behaviors and attitudes. In a state of hypnosis or trance, the client's brain waves shift from beta to alpha or even theta, making the client highly attuned to their internal environment and also hyper-suggestible, optimizing the ability to seed positive changes on the subconscious level. This state also allows for direct communication with the subconscious, allowing us to determine the root cause of dis-ease or problems, receive insight and wisdom, shift limiting beliefs, integrate past experiences and resolve unprocessed emotions. Even though positive suggestions can be seeded during the session, it is up to the client to accept the changes. The client has to want to shift and agree with the changes being suggested for them to work optimally. Hypnosis is a highly effective instrument for making rapid and permanent changes but only when a person is ready to commit to change.

What Happens During a Session?
The steps of a typical session include an initial intake interview, where we discuss the problems that the client is facing and determine the primary goals that the client wants to achieve. I will then suggest which hypnosis technique I feel will best meet the client's unique needs. The hypnosis follows, which most people find to be extremely relaxing and insightful. I always utilize relaxation techniques to induce trance, unlike some practitioners who use a more authoritarian approach. In hypnosis, the client remains aware of their surroundings and remains in control at all times. Most clients awaken from trance feeling very calm, deeply relaxed and optimistic about their current goals.
